Cannabis, Pregnancy, and Lactation

Do you wonder how to best educate and support families about the use of cannabis during pregnancy and lactation?

Objectives

Our goals for the information session are:

  • Describe the current science of cannabis, what products can be found in the Adult Use and Medical Use markets and various terminology in the cannabis industry.

  • Identify short-term risks and potential long-term effects of cannabis use during pregnancy and lactation for the pregnant person, fetal and infant development.

  • Share motivational interviewing styled strategies for expressing concerns or answering questions raised about the safety of cannabis use during pregnancy and/or lactation in an open and non-judgmental way.

Speaker

Brianna Bryant (she/her) is a Certified Prevention Specialist in the Substance Use Prevention Program at Bangor Public Health (BPH). She has been in this role for 9 years, and has worked in prevention for 16 years. “At BPH we know that while not all substance misuse can be prevented, our work targeting risk factors and strengthening protective factors with individuals; in family and peer relationships; throughout communities can have a big impact.”

Brianna is also the parent of 2 amazing teenagers who, while they both were breastfed, are still more than happy to survive on chicken nuggets and chaos.

Your donation is much appreciated and makes it possible for us to offer these educational programs.
